Francisco Fort, April 2019
Members Present: Nichole, Audrey, Janessa, Job
In April of 2019, the PRISM Colorado team traveled down to the charming town of La Veta, Colorado. There, a very well preserved museum made up of 7 buildings all rich in the towns local history. Colonel Francisco founded a trading post in the Colorado Territory in 1862 and soon built a four-sided adobe fort with a central plaza for protection purposes. Other settlers moved into the area, where the fort then became a central hub for the local farmers and ranchers. The fort also would eventually serve as a storehouse, post office, hotel, and private home. This is the last original adobe fort not only still standing, but still in use today.
